I didn't find basketball...Basketball found me..
I cannot say that I started playing basketball out the womb as most kids do; I am very much a late bloomer. I do remember as a child going to the gym with my father, running recklessly and sometimes interfering game play. Through the eyes of a young child, you never realize the impact of which something may have on your life until it becomes a passion.
In my fathers’ passing I still pursued the interest of basketball as I felt it was the closest thing I had to him aside from the memories. Basketball really took flight in my life in middle school when a substitute teacher recognized the potential in me and ever since then I haven’t looked back.
I tried out and participated on both the Sherwood Lady Warriors Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball team. By my sophomore year I started training rigorously doing conditioning and lifting weights. During pre and off season I participated in the AAU circuit for the Educators Basketball Association (EBA). Throughout my duration of high school I also had the opportunity to partake in various basketball clinics, camps, and tournaments. By the time I graduated from high school many colleges sought interest in me as a potential collegiate athlete for their program but I had made the honest decision to focus on my academics.
Although I didn't play in college I never strayed away from the game. I participated in intramurals during the winter and spring season, joined the Women’s traveling team for Penn State, as well as refereeing for the co-Ed basketball league.
Now it's been sometime since I've been on the court but as stated earlier I didn't find basketball...Basketball found me. With great humility I am grateful to be given the opportunity to give back to the community and become a coach.
Basketball as in life has taught me anything worth having is worth fighting for!
