Coach Hetman was born and raised in Fairfax County. She is a graduate of George Mason University with a degree in Health and PE. She played AAU basketball for many years, the first couple of those years she played under Coach Bill Finney (Marymount University Woman’s Basketball Coach). 
Her last year as a college student she began her coaching career at Langley High School under Coach Cheryl Buffo. She was head freshman coach for two years where her team was district champions both years with records of 16-0 and 16-1. She received a teaching job at Robinson Secondary school where she began her coaching experience under Dwight Trimmer. She was head freshman coach where her team again became district champions with a record of 15-1. It was there where she started her coaching in AAU with the Gym Rat Organization. She assisted with the 12 year old travel team which went on to be the Junior National Champions.  After receiving a teaching job at Westfield High School, she spent three years as an assistant varsity coach under Coach Pat Deegan.  She assisted Coach Patrick Deegan with the 12 year old National Vogues AAU team which placed in the top 15 at the National Tournament in Lafayette, LA.
In 2004, Coach Hetman took the Fairfax Stars 11 year old gold team to the AAU National Championship tournament.   In 2005 she took her 11 year old Fairfax Starts National team to nationals at Springfield, Missouri.  She extended her AAU coaching career by taking on a 15 national and 12 national team at the newly opened Hoop Magic Complex in Chantilly Va.
